Welcome to NIOC
Welcome to Texas and welcome to our blog! Yet another technology to use to our advantage to get information out to our Sailors and their families. I am so happy that you have found us here. Please feel free to e-mail anytime if you have pressing questions and your Ombudsman (that's me) will call or email you back. Some of you reading this might be asking what an Ombudsman is? One online source gave a definition as: the Navy Ombudsman Program, communication between the spouses of active duty personnel and the command is kept open, thereby improving the quality of life for everyone involved. The Navy Command Ombudsman is a volunteer position, with no special favors bestowed upon them. The purpose of this program is to ensure the dependents of active duty personnel have a channel of resources for their needs and quality of life. A command ombudsman can guide you to the help you may need, before, during or after a deployment. The Navy Ombudsman undergoes almost constant training, and is bound by confidentiality in most cases. I like to think of myself as a something like a faucet of information. You might not need it on all the time, but when you do it's most likely going to be because there is a thirst in your life. I can help quench that thirst. You might need some help getting your finances squared away, or maybe you and your sponsor are having some readjustment issues after getting back from deployment, maybe you think you can't go back to college but you just don't know about all the programs available. It's possible that I might be able to give you a little cup or a gallon of information at any given time, and if I don't have it ready for you, you'd better believe I will try my best to get it. It's amazing what a little bit of listening can do for a person at a tough time and sometimes, that is all an Ombudsman really needs to be...a faucet with ears. Funny looking faucet.
